![]() ![]() The fortress is almost 130+ z-levels large and Ill need that minecart for deep mining later. ![]() ![]() I have a general stockpile near the top and I plan to use the minecart to first dump items up there and then have the dwarves haul it to the nearby specific stockpiles. After that, the name of the game is specialization. It used to be the main entryway but I am slowly building the stairs to replace it. It even promotes the rise of legendary dwarves.īasically, the only time that labor synergy and mixtures really matter is at less than 20 dwarves. Dedicated dwarves are simply the easiest, and most efficient way to manage labor. This means that a player will have one gem cutter, and all he does is cuts, one setter, and all he does is sets, and three miners, that will only mine gems. You will find however, that most players aim for a system of "masters" in their games. In the same vein, administrators like the broker, bookkeeper, and manager can benefit from specializing in only that job since you want those jobs completed quickly. Miners, for example can't be counted on to do odd jobs because they are usually busy mining way down in the shafts. This means that dwarves with that profession tend to get tunnel vision and do that job to the exclusion of others. What I can say is that some jobs have higher "priorities" than others. I looked through the Init but had no luck.Īlso I'd like to thank /r/dwarffortress for pointing to the very famous AfterActionReport tutorial, it's a Godsend and a very simple and effective way to get into DF. Now to the crux of my post, I just had a thought that maybe it would be simpler for me if there was an option to slow down the pace of the game for now until I can wrap my head around these things and gain some practice. I do use Dwarf Manager and it helps, but if anyone knows a good tutorial about how to best assign jobs I would be much appreciative. I'm also having a pretty rough time assigning jobs efficiently. I'm finding it very hard to be efficient, always alot of stragglers. Mainly it seems I come to a saturation point where there's just so much going on I'm not sure what to do with my little guys. But after going through the Afteractionreport tutorial just once I have a very firm grasp of the basics and successfully maintained a Fortress for 5 years on just my 2nd playthrough. I've tried getting into Dwarf Fortress a couple times in the past couple years with no success at all except in adventure mode.
